“Buenos dias, amigos…”
A sad Carlos Ruiz stands in the shot. A single, dull light illuminates him and only him. He stares down at his feet, not making eye contact with the camera.
“Carlos is sad very much. Por que, you might ask? It is because Carlos finally lose in the Classic Wrestling. Normally Carlos say, ‘that is fine.’ But it is not fine. I took pride very much in being undefeated person in the Classic Wrestling. But now I must find something new to take pride in. Carlos need to make something new happen in order to be proud of myself again. And I have the opportunity to do this at the In Your Haunted House pay-per-view show.”
Carlos nods his head and takes a deep breath before finally looking up at the camera’s lens.
“Carlos get to fight with Señor Gordy in match that will decide who is contender numero uno por Campeonado Premier American. Carlos already have one shot for this Campeonado at last pay-per-view, but I not do as well as I would have liked and I did not walk away as Campeon. This is chance for Carlos to redeem myself. And, si… if Carlos win this fight then I can one time again be proud of my efforts and have something to look forward to.”
Carlos inhales and puffs out his chest.
“Señor Gordy, you are big Texas fighter. I see you many of times on televisión and you have brawls with so many of the fighters who are much bigger than Carlos. But does this concern Carlos Ruiz?”
For the first time, Carlos smiles.
“Absolutely it does not! I may be sad and disappoint in myself for not winning at my last fight, but I am still going to come out to the ring and fight with you to the best of my ability. I will still do everything that I can to defeat you! You see, Carlos do everything I can to try and study you going into fight. Now, Carlos admit that watching the videos you speak in is confusing to me. I understand you less than most people understand Carlos. So I change my mind about watching you speak and decide to just watch you wrestle. And you have been in ring with Señor Frank three or four time! This makes good luck for Carlos, and I will tell you why.”
Carlos winks at the camera.
“By now, you are used to fighting with men who are bigger very much than Carlos! But Carlos is fast! I am, how you say, feisty? I am not a brawler like you or Señor Frank. Bueno. I will be able to defeat you at the In Your Haunted House show because I am something very different than what you see so far in the Classic Wrestling! However, none of that is what is most important here.”
Carlos shakes his head. Finally, he reaches over and flips the light on in the room, This reveals that Carlos is standing inside of a house of mirrors. Carlos smiles, his smile reflecting all throughout the room on many mirrors.
“You see, as sad and disappointed as Carlos is in performance at the last fight, I have a message for you Señor Gordy. No matter where you look…”
Carlos stretches his arms out.
“…Carlos is going to be there! Carlos is not somebody who will just go away or give up because I lose one fight. Instead, I make my efforts bigger and stronger! It is almost as if Carlos becomes more than one Carlos, as you see here. I double my energy and my speed and my aggression! The Carlos that you watch on the televisión is different Carlos than you have ever seen in the Classic Wrestling! When it is all said and done, Carlos is going to be fast enough and strong enough to defeat you, Señor Gordy… not because I am a bigger and better wrestler than you, but because I have corazón the size of Texas!”
Carlos winks at Gordy through the lens. He reaches down and unfolds his Maui Jim sunglasses. He slides them on his face and smiles.
“Bueno. When the In Your Haunted House show is over, Señor Gordy, it is going to be Carlos who is happy and yells out ‘YEE-HAW!’ And I will be contender numero uno por Campeonado Premier American! VIVA LA LUCHA!”
Carlos reaches over and flips the switch, killing the lights. The camera cuts feed.
